September 2: Palmer Pond to the Hudson River Leader: Brendan Hanley Level: Easy+ Duration: 3 hoursLimit: 10

Description: This four-mile (appx) hike commences atthe Palmer Pond trailhead at the end of Palmer Pond Road (off NYS Route8) in the Town of Chester. The group will proceed around the shore of the pond and then head down to the Hudson River on unmapped, but clearlyblazed trails. There with be a side trip up a small, unnamed mountain to a rocky overlook with broad views to the southwest. Although much of the hike from the pond to the river is downhill, I estimate 400 to 500 ft of elevation gain, primarily on the side trip up the mountain. The trip will require spotting cars both at the Palmer Pond trailhead and by the Hudson. Meeting Place/Time: Meet at 10:00 AM at a place to be determined based upon car spotting considerations.

We will meet at the parking area at the FISHING ACCESS (450 ft. south of rt 383) at 8:45am and begin hiking at 9:00 am. We'llhike approximately 3 hours in this beautiful mostly flat park on the north side of Oatka Creek for most of the hike. Start with pants legs on,weeds may be long on the first part of the hike,  covering 5-6 miles. Directions from Scottsville are to go west on Rt 383/ Scottsville-Mumford Rd about 2 miles then turn left in Garbutt onto Union Street. The parking area is on the right in 450 ft.

Additional Information: The Sunday Hikes are offered as a benefit to current and potential new members of ADK. All our hikes have a steady pace, so are not "nature strolls" but they are also not "endurance tests", although we do at times hike at a brisk pace. Bring  plenty to drink. Equally important, is the proper footwear, gear and clothing for changing conditions. Our hikes our planned by our leaders tolast 2.5 hours, but many times unexpected delays can occur, so If youare pressed for time, this hike may not be a good fit. We're always looking for new places to go and additional leaders. Minors are welcome when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If not, the responsible adult must have the signed release which is available on our website. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

- We'll park at theDirgylot Hill parking area on the left off of Route 9, a few miles north of Schroon Lake and Northway Exit 28. From there, we'll hike under the Northway culvert, following the old woods road to the first tee, turning right, and then following the woods road a short distance and continuing along a very light hunter's trail leading to the northwith evidence of old hatchet marks on trees, eventually hitting the major unnamed drainage on the east side of Blue Ridge (17th Brook), whereanother old woods road parallels the brook. We'll follow 17th Brook past the eastern face of Peaked Hills and continue to West Peaked Hillnearest Hoffman Mountain, and then back to East Peaked Hill, and finally over to South Peaked Hill, time and conditions permitting. Waterfalls, rock slabs and open summits await. Approximately 9 miles and a total elevation gain of about 2600 feet. Bad weather cancels.

- Over a century ago, the State of New York was gifted the Adirondack home of Abolitionists John and Mary Brown on the condition that it be used for the purpose of a public park orreservation forever. Today, John Brown Lives! is both the official friends group of the 250-acre state historic site abutting the High Peaks Forest Preserve, and a freedom education and human rights project activein the North Country. Longtime ADK members Benita Law-Diao and Jeff Jones are also JBL! board members and human rights activists. Influenced bythe Black Lives Matter movement, their presentation will focus on the group's programs and activities designed to bring fresh awareness to the Farm's role in Adirondack, New York and U.S. history.

September 16: Fishing Outing to Lake Lila Leader: Jeffrey Schanzer Level: Moderate

Description: Lake Lila is totally surrounded by state land and is not accessible by road making it an excellent location for fishing. It is at the end of dirt road just north of Long Lake. There is a one third mile carry from the parking lot. Bring a lightweight kayak or canoe as there is very little fishing availability from shore. This carry would be extremely difficult with wheels because of many roots and rocks, so leave your cart at home. Lake Lila is known for excellent smallmouth bass fishing. Bring a PFD and a whistle as required by ADK. In addition to the carry,we will be on the water for at least three hours. Bring a snack and fluids. Meeting time/place: Parking areas on the street across from the Adirondack Hotel by the Long Lake public beach at noon.

Contact: Please email Jeffrey Schanzer at JeffSchan@aol.com to participate. An emailwill be sent to participants the night before should any changes or cancellation be necessary

Join us on this late summer hike to two of the Catskill 3500 peaks (elevation 3608 and 3583).  If you haven’t been to Eagle in a while, there is now a canister marking the summit at the end of the short herd path from the trail.  We should be starting to see some fall color by September 16.  This is a strenuous hike with 2800 feet of elevation gain over 10 miles.
